Anchors Away at Local TV Stations

The last two weeks has seen a major shake-up in local TV news. Major changes for anchorship duties have arised at both KITV Channel 4 and KGMB Channel 9. Stories on these changes broke at the respective TV news operations and widely discussed on our sister site, HawaiiThreads.com.

In a nutshell, it was announced yesterday that KITV’s husband and wife news team of Gary Sprinkle and Pamela Young will be taking over that TV station’s 6 o’clock news spot starting on September 15.

This news comes on the heals of last week’s big announcement that KGMB TV anchor Kim Gennaula will be leaving her anchor spot for good by the end of the November ratings sweeps to work full time for Kapiolani Medical Center as Director of Philanthropy. She announced the move last week on the KGMB 9 News. Her new job with Kapiolani Medical starts soon as she scales back from anchoring the 6:00 pm news soon and concentrate on the 10:00 news through the fall ratings sweep.

Gennaula has managed to bring KGMB’s 10 o’clock news to the #1 spot in recent months over rival KHON TV’s newscast with anchor Joe Moore.

Likewise, Gary and Pamela’s 5 o clock afternoon news at KITV has been a consistent ratings success topping the timeslot there for several years.
